Prevent and Treat Hives With Home Remedies

When an allergic reaction causes skin cells to secrete histamine, local blood vessels dilate and their walls become permeable. A clear fluid called serum, spreads into surrounding tissues, causing characteristic inflammation and swelling that itches. The rash occurs within minutes from the time the incriminated substance was consumed or touched. Swellings vary in size and they form irregular shaped areas. Initially, such a surface is red, then it becomes white in the middle, with reddish edges. It takes about a day to disappear.
Hives is often the result of an allergy to some food, irritating plants (stinging nettle), medication (such as aspirin or penicillin) or insect bites. Exposure to sunlight, extreme temperatures and stress can also cause hives.
You can avoid recurrence of hives if you find the cause. It's not always easy to establish a connection between hives and the food that caused it. Write down everything you eat - not only food and drinks, but supplements, drugs (with or without prescription), toothpaste and mouthwash. If symptoms return, you can establish a connection between hives and what you have ingested.
If the method does not work, try elimination, removing from your menu one or two foods for three weeks. If you do not experience symptoms at the time, add the foods back to your diet, one by one, every three weeks. If hives occurs again, the last food added to the menu is the one that causes the rash.
  • Against hives caused by anxiety or stress, drink chamomile or valerian tea twice a day;
  • Apply aloe vera gel to soothe the itch;
  • Wash yourself with chamomile, chickweed or elderflower tea;
  • Drink twice a day a cup of nettle, burdock, echinacea, myrrh or marshmallow tea, known for their antihistaminic properties;
  • Apply calendula, plantain or chickweed and comfrey cream.
  • Relieve the itching by putting in your bath water 3 tablespoons of baking soda or 5 tablespoons of big oat flakes and stay in the tub for 10-15 minutes;
  • Put in the bath water 9 cups of vinegar or 1 teaspoon of vinegar diluted in a tablespoon of warm water and apply on hives with a cotton swab. Vinegar prevents the itch, making the skin acid;
  • Apply cucumber juice or slices of raw cucumber on hives.
